Time Magazine has named a broad range of people, primarily women, who raised awareness about sexual harassment and assault in the U.S. as its 2017 Person of the Year.
“The Silence Breakers” are responsible for “a hashtag, a movement, a reckoning,” wrote Time Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal. “But it began, as great social change nearly always does, with individual acts of courage.”
Among those designated as “The Silence Breakers” are this year’s public accusers of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein and others who publicized their stories of abuse using the hashtag #MeToo in English and other languages.
