British Regulator Says Facebook Will Face Fines Over Cambridge Analytica Data Breach

The United Kingdom’s data protection watchdog said on Tuesday it would be fining Facebook £500,000 over the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which would be the largest penalty ever but the social network could potentially reduce the sum, according to NBC News. The regulator also said it would bring a criminal action against Cambridge Analytica’s defunct parent company, SCL Elections. It also said Aggregate IQ, which collaborated with the Vote Leave campaign during Brexit, must stop processing U.K. citizens’ data.
